Seasonal Affective Disorder - Treating Recurrent Despair With NLP

Furthermore, they report a craving for carbohydrates or candy. Additionally, most people diagnosed with SAD also have poor immune system functioning. Frequently, they find themselves becoming ill much more quickly than those who do not suffer from SAD.
This condition can seriously affect an individual's capability of functioning at work or at school. This lack of motivation can make getting out of bed or engaging in one's usual daily activities difficult. People with SAD find it difficult to participate in social situations, or even at home. These persons often experience episodes of extreme anxiety and irritability. Occasionally, the problem becomes severe and distressing enough that people even think about suicide and have to be hospitalized for therapy.
Interestingly, females seem to have a higher rate of SAD than men do. Furthermore, this condition seems to get better yearly at springtime. In fact, in March or April, symptoms typically subside or disappear altogether - until autumn returns again. This is the case even in states that are frequently dismal all year long. In fact, as many as twenty percent of those who are diagnosed with seasonal depression will eventually exhibit signs of bipolar disorder.
These sufferers primarily tend to be depressed in the winter months, but report normal moods throughout the rest of the year. In some cases, however, they report experiencing instances of uncontrollable mood elevation, which is also called mania. As with other types of depression, SAD may become quite severe and even result in disability if not treated properly. Moreover, many persons suffer from very mild levels of depression; they may experience sleepiness, decreased vigor, and eating difficulties. Such people, however, rarely suffer episodes of depressed moods or anxiety.
This kind of depression is relatively rare in sunny regions such as Florida, Arizona, and even Colorado. In contrast, people who reside in places with a large number of cloudy days, such as Ohio, Michigan, or Washington are at higher risk for developing this disorder. Citizens of countries including Finland, Sweden, and Ireland also struggle with SAD.
Scientists have attempted a number of alternative approaches to assist clients recover from this exhausting problem. They have experimented with exposing people to artificial light in an attempt to help them manufacture more serotonin and lessen depression symptoms. Researchers have also tried medicines such as antidepressants, as well as supplements, such as melatonin, trying to treat these symptoms of depression. Many individuals who experience Seasonal Affective Disorder also visit counselors when they are suffering most greatly.
